Faithfulness in Adversity

Chaos waters have a way of rocking our sense of stability. Sometimes the best thing we can do is to cling to God for dear life and just put one foot in front of the other. When life gets overwhelming, Jesus’ words in Matthew 6 invite us to take a deep breath and shift our focus. “Seek first the Kingdom of God…” These simple words hold a powerful and beautiful truth: when we seek God, take seriously what Scripture tells us about our identity in Him and trust Him to take care of us…He will.
Jesus knew we’d face all kinds of struggles that leave us feeling empty and desperate. He never once belittled these challenges or pretended they didn’t matter. Instead, He provided the core truth of His teaching that the power of remaining faithful to God is that God remains faithful to us by gently reminding us that we’re precious in His eyes.
While the truths that Jesus outlines in Matthew 6 have deep spiritual implications, they are far from abstract. They are packed with practical wisdom and application. Faithfulness in hard times doesn’t mean pretending everything is okay when it’s not. Being intentional about turning to God in prayer and scripture are key. It’s not about mustering up some super-spiritual strength on our own. It’s about taking small steps toward trusting God, even when we don’t feel like it. That could look like whispering a prayer when your heart feels heavy or opening your Bible to remind yourself of His promises. It could mean reaching out to a friend to say, “I’m struggling—can you pray with me?” The goal is to bring practices into the situation that draw you in closer to the God who is present in that moment.
